    From Tirana, a taxi to Pëllumbas village costs approximately 3500-4500 Lekë. The ride takes around 30-45 minutes. From the village center, follow the marked hiking trail to the cave, which takes another 30-45 minutes. There is no parking fee in the village.

  • Public Transport

    Take a bus from Tirana's Southeast Terminal to Pëllumbas. Buses depart at 7:00, 13:00, and 17:00, with return trips at 8:30, 14:30, and 18:30. Alternatively, take a bus to Iba village and then a minibus to Pëllumbas, increasing the walking distance by about 4 kilometers. From the village, a 2-kilometer marked trail leads to the cave in about 45 minutes. Bus fare to Elbasan is around 300 ALL, and the minibus to Pëllumbas is about 100 ALL.

Pëllumbas Cave (Shpella e Pëllumbasit), or the Black Cave, is a captivating natural wonder located near the village of Pëllumbas, roughly 20 km southeast of Tirana. This cave is considered one of Albania's most precious karstic caves and prehistoric settlements. Declared a natural monument in 2002, it attracts visitors with its stunning geological formations and rich history. The cave stretches 360 meters in length, with chambers varying between 10 and 15 meters in width and reaching up to 45 meters in height. Inside, you'll find a mesmerizing display of stalactites and stalagmites, sculpted over millennia. The cave's dark rocks contribute to its nickname, the Black Cave. Pëllumbas Cave is not only a geological marvel but also a site of significant historical importance. Remnants of ancient human culture from the Paleolithic period have been discovered within its depths. Skeletons of cave bears (Ursus Speleaus), which roamed the area between 10,000 and 400,000 years ago, have also been found, making it one of only five such caves in Europe. During the World Wars, the cave served as a secret hiding spot for local villagers. The hike to the cave is a moderate 2-kilometer trail from Pëllumbas village, taking around 45 minutes. The path offers beautiful views of the Erzen River gorge and the surrounding landscape. It's advisable to wear sturdy shoes due to the slippery and uneven terrain inside the cave. Flashlights or headlamps are also recommended for exploring the darker sections.
