The Archaeological Museum of Korça, established in 1985, serves as a vital cultural institution dedicated to researching and presenting the rich archaeological history of the Korça region. The museum is located at 19 Rruga Mihal Grameno, within two traditional Korça houses dating back to 1870, which are themselves designated as Cultural Monuments of Albania for their architectural significance. The museum's collection comprises approximately 1,200 artifacts, predominantly from the prehistoric period. These items originate from various archaeological sites near Korça, including Kamenica Tumulus, and represent Neolithic (6000-2100 BC), Bronze Age (2100-1100 BC), and Iron Age (1100-500 BC) settlements. Exhibits include pottery, jewelry, sculptures, and burial artifacts, providing insights into the evolution of local craftsmanship and the daily lives of ancient inhabitants. Of particular interest is the skeleton of a pregnant Illyrian woman discovered at the Kamenica Tumulus burial site, which contained around 400 burials. The museum's displays also feature items from Neolithic settlements like Podgori, Maliq, and Dunavec, as well as Bronze Age settlements such as Sovjan, Barç, and Rehovë. The artifacts on display offer a comprehensive overview of the region's history, from the earliest settlements to the Iron Age. In July 2024, the museum began undergoing restoration work to reinforce its foundations, restore masonry and wooden beams, and fully restore the roof. This project is expected to take six months.
