Discover more about Enver Hoxha's Former Residence

Located on Rruga Ismail Qemali in Tirana, Enver Hoxha's Former Residence offers a glimpse into Albania's communist era. For decades, this three-story villa was home to Enver Hoxha, who ruled Albania with an iron fist for over four decades. During his reign, the surrounding area, known as Blloku, was sealed off and reserved for the party elite. While Hoxha preached equality, his residence reflected a lifestyle of comfort and security, a stark contrast to the lives of ordinary Albanians. The house was built between 1972 and 1973 and dubbed “Object X”. Supplies were covertly imported from Europe and Italian technicians were brought in to install fixtures unseen elsewhere in Albania. The result was a 2,500 sq m residence – complete with pool and home cinema – that mixed local and Western architecture. Today, the house is closed to the public. However, its imposing architecture serves as a reminder of Albania's complex history and the impact of totalitarian rule. The surrounding Blloku area has transformed into a vibrant district with bars, cafes, and restaurants, symbolizing Albania's transition from its communist past to a more open future.
