Tyrbja e Kapllan Pashës, or the Tomb of Kapllan Pasha, is a significant landmark in Tirana, serving as a window into the city's Ottoman heritage. Constructed in 1817, the tomb was dedicated to Kapllan Pasha, who governed Tirana in the early 19th century. It was originally part of a larger cemetery complex associated with Tirana's first mosque. This complex once included six similar monumental tombs, but they were destroyed during World War II, leaving Kapllan Pasha's tomb as the sole survivor. The tomb features a distinctive octagonal shape, with eight carved stone columns resting on stone bases and topped with plant motif capitals. These columns support arches, showcasing the craftsmanship of the era. The structure stands approximately 4 meters tall. The tomb is open to the air, without a roof or dome. Although Kapllan Pasha was initially buried here, his remains were later moved to Istanbul, Turkey.Today, Tyrbja e Kapllan Pashës stands in contrast to the modern buildings surrounding it, serving as a reminder of Tirana's layered history. It is considered a Cultural Monument of the first category by the Albanian government. The Municipality of Tirana has undertaken efforts to restore the tomb, ensuring its preservation for future generations. Visiting this mausoleum offers a unique glimpse into the past.
