Discover more about Queralbs - Cremallera de Núria

The Cremallera de Núria, also known as the Núria Rack Railway, is a marvel of engineering and a gateway to the stunning Vall de Núria. Inaugurated on March 22, 1931, this railway has been transporting visitors through the rugged terrain of the Pyrenees for over 90 years. The train covers a distance of 12.5 km and climbs over 1,000 meters in about 40 minutes. The railway was built to provide access to the Sanctuary of Núria and to support the growing popularity of winter sports in the valley. Previously, the valley was only accessible by foot. The construction of the railway was a significant undertaking, employing over a thousand workers, engineers, and architects. The Cremallera de Núria starts in Queralbs, the last point accessible by road vehicle. From there, the train ascends through lush forests and steep mountain slopes, offering passengers panoramic views of the Catalan Pyrenees. In 2008, the line was updated with the addition of the Roc del Dui tunnel, which is 1.3 km long, to avoid a geologically unstable section of the route. Today, the Cremallera de Núria is more than just a means of transportation; it's an experience in itself. The train is environmentally friendly, operating on electricity generated from solar energy. Upon arrival in Núria, visitors can explore the Sanctuary, enjoy outdoor activities such as hiking and skiing, and immerse themselves in the natural beauty of the valley.
