The Cremallera de Núria, also known as the Vall de Núria Rack Railway, is more than just a mode of transport; it's a journey through stunning Pyrenean landscapes. Opened on March 22, 1931, this railway was built to facilitate access to the Sanctuary of Núria and the growing popularity of winter sports in the region. Before the railway, the valley was only accessible by foot or mule track.The rack railway stretches 12.5 km and overcomes an elevation change of 1,000 meters in approximately 40 minutes. The train departs from Ribes de Freser, connecting to Queralbs before arriving at Núria, which sits at 1,964 meters above sea level. The journey offers passengers a unique and scenic ride, passing through mountains and ravines.The Cremallera de Núria is also committed to environmental preservation. The electric energy that powers the train comes from 100% renewable solar energy, meaning it produces no CO2 emissions.At the Cremallera de Núria, visitors can explore the history of the railway at the Museu del Cremallera, located next to the Ribes-Vila station. A ride on the Coma del Clot cable car is included in the train ticket, providing access to Pic del Àliga Hostel and a viewpoint with spectacular views of the valley and peaks.
