Discover more about Estació de muntanya Vall de Núria

Vall de Núria, meaning "Valley between mountains", is a captivating destination in the heart of the Catalan Pyrenees. Situated at an altitude of 2,000 meters, this glacial valley is part of the municipality of Queralbs, Girona, and is uniquely isolated, with access only via a rack railway or on foot. This isolation lends to its peaceful atmosphere, making it a perfect escape from the bustle of everyday life. The valley is renowned for the Sanctuary of the Virgin of Núria, a site with 800 years of worship. Legend says Saint Giles arrived here around 700 AD, carving an image of the Virgin Mary and hiding it in a cave to protect it from persecution. In the 11th century, a pilgrim rediscovered the image, along with a cooking pot, cross, and bell, leading to the construction of a chapel. The current church and hotel were built in the early 20th century. In 1931, the valley also played a role in Catalan history when the first Catalan Statute of Autonomy was drafted at the Sanctuary. Today, Vall de Núria is a popular year-round destination. In winter, it transforms into a family-friendly ski resort with slopes for all skill levels. Other winter activities include snowshoeing, sledding and even ice scuba diving. During the warmer months, visitors can enjoy hiking, trekking, horseback riding, canoeing on the lake, and exploring the Capçaleres del Ter i del Freser Natural Park. The area boasts diverse flora and fauna, including chamois deer and marmots. Whether you're seeking a spiritual retreat, an outdoor adventure, or simply a place to connect with nature, Vall de Núria offers a memorable experience in a breathtaking setting.
