Discover more about Puigmal

Puigmal, an iconic peak in the Pyrenees, stands tall on the border between Spain and France. Known as Puigmal d'Err, it's the second highest peak in the eastern Pyrenees. The mountain presents a diverse landscape, with its western slopes composed of smooth, easily walkable terrain and its eastern side characterized by rugged, alpine scenery. Hikers are drawn to Puigmal for its stunning 360-degree views of both the Spanish and French Pyrenees. The climb is most pleasant during the summer months (June-September) when the weather is stable and the mountain is generally free of snow. However, even in summer, temperatures can drop at higher elevations, so appropriate clothing and gear are essential. Several trails lead to the summit, catering to various skill levels. A popular starting point is Vall de Núria, a picturesque mountain valley accessible by a rack railway. From there, hikers can choose between shorter, circular routes or longer, more challenging treks. The summit itself features a large iron cross and a signpost with a poem by Jacint Verdaguer.
