Discover more about Queralbs - Cremallera de Núria

Queralbs, nestled in the picturesque Vall de Ribes in the Girona province, is a captivating gateway to the Vall de Núria. Surrounded by the majestic Pyrenees, including peaks like Puigmal and Balandrau, Queralbs boasts a spectacular landscape. Historically, the mountains of Queralbs served as pastures for transhumance flocks. Today, tourism is the main activity, with the village acting as the primary access point to the Vall de Núria. The village itself offers a taste of authentic Catalan mountain life, with its stone houses and beautiful church. The church of Sant Jaume de Queralbs, dating back to the 10th century, has been renovated over the years due to population growth and damage from a 15th-century earthquake. Also of note is the church of Sant Sadurní de Fustanyà, another 10th-century structure with a legendary origin. The Cremallera de Núria, a rack railway inaugurated in 1931, is the only means of transport to access the Vall de Núria mountain resort. The 12.5 km journey overcomes an elevation change of 1,000 meters in just 40 minutes, passing through stunning landscapes. The train passes through four stations: Ribes-Enllaç, Ribes-Vila, Queralbs, and Núria. The railway is not only a means to reach Vall de Núria but also a key element in the environmental preservation of the area, providing sustainable access to a unique natural environment.
