This dramatic canyon sits on the edge of the Serra da Leba escarpment, marking the western boundary of the Humpata Plateau. The name 'Tundavala' comes from the Nyaneka language, meaning 'what is open/apart' or 'the aperture'. Rising to over 2,200 meters (7,200 ft), the rim of Tundavala Gap offers an awe-inspiring panorama, with a sheer drop of about 1,000 meters (3,300 ft) to the plains below. The viewpoint overlooks an expansive 10,000 square kilometers (3,900 sq mi) stretching towards Moçâmedes in the Namibe Province. The geological formations, sculpted by tectonic activity and erosion over millennia, create a unique and striking landscape. Visitors can explore the area through guided hiking trails, offering diverse perspectives of the gap and its natural surroundings.
