Calandula Falls: Angola's Majestic Natural Wonder

Calandula Falls, also known as Quedas de Calandula in Portuguese, is a majestic waterfall in Angola's Malanje Province. Situated on the Lucala River, these falls are among the largest in Africa, boasting a height of 105 meters (344 feet) and a width of 400 meters (1,300 feet). The sheer volume of water cascading down makes for a truly awe-inspiring sight, especially during the rainy season from November to April. Historically known as Duque de Bragança Falls during the Angolan civil war, the falls have reverted to their original name, Calandula Falls. The surrounding area is rich in biodiversity, featuring lush, green landscapes and tropical forests that offer numerous photo opportunities. The falls are set in a wild environment with little tourist infrastructure, offering a more pristine experience compared to other well-known African waterfalls.
