Discover more about Parque Nacional do Quicama

Quicama National Park, also known as Kissama National Park, is a vast protected area on Angola's Atlantic coast, approximately 70 km south of Luanda. Established in 1957, it stands as the only fully operational national park in Angola, showcasing the country's commitment to conservation after years of civil conflict. The park spans nearly 10,000 square kilometers, encompassing diverse ecosystems such as savannahs, gallery forests, wetlands, and a 120km stretch of coastline. This variety supports a range of wildlife, including elephants, giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, various antelope species, and a wealth of birdlife. While the animal populations are still recovering from the impact of war and poaching, ongoing conservation efforts, including the historic "Operation Noah's Ark" which relocated animals from South Africa and Botswana, are steadily restoring the park's biodiversity. Visitors to Quicama can enjoy guided safaris, birdwatching excursions, and boat trips along the Cuanza River, which forms the park's northern boundary. The park's proximity to Luanda makes it an accessible destination for day trips or longer stays, offering a chance to experience Angola's natural beauty and witness its conservation story firsthand. The best time to visit is during the dry season, from June to September, when wildlife is easier to spot around water sources.
