The Patagonia National Park Visitor Center serves as a key piece of infrastructure within the park, offering visitors an educational experience and a deeper connection with the natural environment. The center interactively presents the landscape and cultural history of the Chacabuco Valley, incorporating a moving narrative about the importance of national parks and ecological restoration. The building itself is an attraction, constructed with local stones and recycled wood, evoking the style of old Patagonia from the 1880s. The design incorporates sustainable elements, such as a double-layered roof that harnesses solar radiation to preheat air, contributing to the building's natural heating and reducing energy consumption. Inside, the center is divided into thematic areas dedicated to conservation, geography, culture, flora, and fauna of the region. These spaces guide visitors through the park's most important aspects and its ecosystem. Beyond the main exhibit hall, the visitor center includes spaces for temporary exhibitions, an audiovisual room, a reception area, and restrooms. The building also features a second floor with an apartment for the center's caretaker. The center stands as an example of how sustainable architecture can harmoniously integrate into the natural landscape of Patagonia National Park. The park was created in 2018, thanks to the donation of land by the Tompkins Conservation, and it protects over 304,000 hectares.
