Getting There

• Car

  If you're traveling by car, start by heading towards Cochrane on Route 7 (Carretera Austral). Once you reach Cochrane, continue on Route 7 for approximately 30 kilometers until you see signs for Valle Chacabuco. Turn onto the road leading into Valle Chacabuco and follow it for about 15 kilometers. You'll find the Centro de visitantes del Parque Nacional Patagonia on your right side. Ensure your vehicle has enough fuel, as gas stations may be limited in this area.

• Public Transportation

  To reach the Centro de visitantes del Parque Nacional Patagonia via public transportation, take a bus from Coyhaique to Cochrane. This journey takes approximately 4-5 hours. Once in Cochrane, you can take a taxi or a local shuttle service to Valle Chacabuco. The taxi ride will take around 30 minutes and will cost approximately 20,000 CLP (Chilean Pesos). Make sure to confirm the fare with the driver before starting your trip.

• Bicycle

  For the adventurous, biking from Cochrane to Valle Chacabuco is an option. The distance is about 30 kilometers along Route 7. The road can be challenging, so ensure you're well-prepared with water, snacks, and a repair kit for your bicycle. This journey will take several hours, depending on your cycling speed and breaks.

• Hiking

  If you're an avid hiker and in good fitness, consider hiking from Cochrane to Valle Chacabuco. This is a strenuous hike of approximately 30 kilometers and should only be attempted by experienced hikers. Make sure to bring adequate supplies, including food, water, and navigation tools, as well as a map of the area. It is advisable to start early in the day to ensure you have enough daylight for the hike.
