From El Chaltén, drive south on Route 40 for approximately 37 kilometers (about 30 minutes). Look for signs towards Lago Viedma. As you approach Lago Viedma, you will see a turnoff that leads to a parking area near the lake. This parking area is the starting point for accessing Glaciar Viedma. Make sure to have a map or GPS service on your phone, as the cell service can be limited in this area.

Take a bus from El Chaltén to El Calafate, which operates several times a day. The journey takes about 3 hours. Once in El Calafate, you will need to arrange for a local tour operator to take you to Lago Viedma, as public transport options are limited. Tours may include transportation and typically cost around 1000-2000 ARS depending on the operator and the season. Be sure to book in advance, as spots can fill up quickly.
