Discover more about Cascada de Ventisquero Colgante

Cascada de Ventisquero Colgante, meaning Hanging Glacier Falls, is a breathtaking waterfall located within Queulat National Park in Chile's Aysén region. The waterfall is formed by the meltwater of the Ventisquero Colgante (Hanging Glacier) as it plunges over a towering cliff, which was once covered by the glacier itself. The indigenous Chono people called the area “Queolat,” meaning “the sound of waterfalls”. The falls are approximately 10 miles (16 km) south of Puyuhuapi. The glacier towers over 400 meters high, creating a scenic waterfall. Depending on the ice formations above, the meltwaters cascade down in one or two paths before impacting angled bedrock and flowing to the valley floor. The waterfall flows into the Témpanos River. The glacier can sometimes be shrouded in clouds. Visitors can explore the area via several trails, the most popular being the Sendero Ventisquero Colgante, which leads to a viewpoint of the glacier. Other trails include Sendero Laguna Témpanos, Sendero El Aluvión, Sendero Mirador Panorámico, and Sendero Río Guillermo. Boat tours are also available on Laguna Témpanos, providing a unique perspective of the falls.
