Getting There

    If you're driving from Ushuaia, take Route 3 north out of the city. After approximately 7 km, turn left onto Route J, which is well signposted for Laguna Esmeralda. Continue on Route J for about 12 km until you reach a parking area at the trailhead. The last part of the drive is unpaved, so a vehicle with good clearance is recommended. Make sure to pay attention to any signs indicating parking fees, which can vary.

    From Ushuaia, you can take a local bus heading towards the Tierra Mayor Valley, which runs frequently. Inform the driver that you want to get off at the Laguna Esmeralda trailhead (it’s typically a well-known stop). The bus ride costs around ARS 500. Once you disembark, follow the clearly marked trail that leads to the lagoon, which takes about 1.5 to 2 hours of hiking.
