The Fort Tuthill Military History Museum stands as a tribute to the soldiers of Arizona, particularly the 158th Infantry Regiment, also known as the 'Bushmasters'. Housed in two of the original buildings of Fort Tuthill, the museum creates the atmosphere of a regimental headquarters from the 1940s. The museum's exhibits trace the history of the 158th Infantry from its beginnings as the 1st Regiment Arizona Volunteers in 1865 through their service in World War I, World War II, and more recent deployments. Visitors can explore a variety of artifacts, including uniforms, weapons, letters, and vehicles. Key exhibits include the General Tuthill WWI exhibit, the 45th Infantry Division, the 158th Infantry Bunker Bushmaster displays in the WWII exhibit, and the 1st Battalion 158th Infantry Regiment Afghan Deployment display. Outside, visitors can see displays of military vehicles and equipment. Fort Tuthill itself has a rich history, constructed in 1929 as a training facility for the Arizona National Guard. Named after General Alexander M. Tuthill, known as the 'Father of the Arizona National Guard,' the fort served as a training site until 1948. Today, Fort Tuthill is a county park offering various recreational activities, including camping, hiking, and events, in addition to being home to the Military Museum.
