Getting There
-
Car
If you're driving to Mooney Falls, start from the Grand Canyon Village. Take AZ-64 S for about 40 miles until you reach the junction with Hualapai Hilltop Road. Turn left onto Hualapai Hilltop Road and continue for approximately 60 miles until you reach the Hualapai Hilltop parking area. Here, you must park your car and prepare for the hike. Note that there is usually a parking fee of around $10 per vehicle.
-
Hiking
From Hualapai Hilltop, begin your hike down the Havasu Canyon trail. The hike to Mooney Falls is about 10 miles and can take 4-6 hours to complete. Ensure you are well-prepared with plenty of water, snacks, and appropriate gear. The trail is steep and rocky in places, and you will encounter several switchbacks. After about 5 miles, you will reach the Havasupai village of Supai. Continue on the trail for another 1.5 miles past the village to reach Mooney Falls. Be aware that there are no services beyond Supai, so plan accordingly.
-
Helicopter
For a quicker option, you can take a helicopter tour that departs from the Grand Canyon West Airport. This will take you over the canyon and drop you off near the Havasupai reservation. However, this option can be quite expensive, typically ranging from $300 to $500 per person, and you would still need to hike the remaining distance to Mooney Falls.
-
Public Transportation
If you prefer to use public transportation, you can take a shuttle bus from various locations around the Grand Canyon to Peach Springs. From Peach Springs, you will need to arrange a private shuttle or taxi to Hualapai Hilltop. Be sure to check the shuttle schedules in advance, as they may not run frequently. Also, factor in additional costs for the shuttle services.
