Discover more about Fort Huachuca

Nestled in the southeastern corner of Arizona, Fort Huachuca has a rich history dating back to the Indian Wars of the 1870s and 1880s. Established in 1877 as Camp Huachuca, its initial mission was to protect settlers and prevent Apache raiding parties from escaping into Mexico. The fort played a key role in General Nelson A. Miles' campaign against Geronimo, serving as his headquarters in 1886. In the early 20th century, Fort Huachuca became home to the famed 10th Cavalry, the "Buffalo Soldiers," who served with distinction during the Mexican Expedition and World War I. During World War II, the fort's population soared as it became a training site for two Black infantry divisions. Today, Fort Huachuca is a major military installation and the headquarters of the U.S. Army Intelligence Center and the U.S. Army Network Enterprise Technology Command (NETCOM). It also houses the U.S. Army Electronic Proving Ground. Visitors can explore the fort's history at the Fort Huachuca Museum, which showcases artifacts and exhibits related to the fort's past and the military in the Southwest. The Old Post area features notable buildings like the Pershing House and Leonard Wood Hall. Official ceremonies are often held on Brown Parade Field, with presentations by the mounted B Troop Cavalry in historic uniforms.
