Discover more about Rosson House Museum at Heritage Square

The Rosson House Museum, nestled in Heritage Square in downtown Phoenix, offers a captivating glimpse into the city's Victorian past. Built between 1894 and 1895 for Dr. Roland Lee Rosson and his wife, Flora, this Stick-Eastlake Queen Anne-style mansion showcases a blend of architectural influences, including an Asian-inspired moon gate, Italianate hooded windows, and a French octagonal turret. Designed by San Francisco architect A.P. Petit, it was his final design before his death. Dr. Rosson was a prominent figure in early Phoenix, serving as a physician, surgeon, county coroner, treasurer, and even mayor in 1895. The house boasted modern amenities for its time, such as hot and cold running water, electric lights, and a telephone. However, the Rossons only lived in the house for a couple of years before moving to Los Angeles. Over the years, the Rosson House changed hands and was even used as a rooming house, falling into disrepair. In 1974, the City of Phoenix purchased the house and began a community-driven restoration project. Today, the Rosson House Museum is fully restored to its original splendor, offering guided tours that explore the history of Phoenix and the lives of its early families. Some have reported paranormal activity, including sightings of a caretaker who was murdered at the museum.
