If you are in downtown Tempe, start at the Tempe Town Lake. Head east along the south side of the lake on the walking path. Continue until you reach the intersection with Mill Avenue. Turn left (north) onto Mill Avenue and walk until you reach the intersection with McKellips Road. Here you will want to catch a bus.

At the Mill Avenue and McKellips Road intersection, look for the Valley Metro bus stop. You can take Route 72 (Scottsdale Road). Board the bus going north and stay on it for about 15 minutes. Get off at the stop near the Arizona Cross Cut Canal (make sure to check the stop names on the bus).

After getting off the bus, walk east towards the Arizona Cross Cut Canal. The Papago POW Escape Monument is located along the canal. Follow the path along the canal, and you will see the monument shortly after. It is a short walk, and you will be able to enjoy the scenic views along the way.
