Discover more about Yume Japanese Gardens of Tucson

Yume Japanese Gardens of Tucson offers a serene escape into Japanese culture and artistry right in the heart of Tucson. Founded in 2011 and opened in 2013 by Patricia Deridder, Yume, meaning 'dream' in Japanese, embodies the founder's vision of sharing the beauty and healing qualities of Japanese gardens with the community. Spanning less than an acre, the gardens feature a collection of distinct garden spaces, including a Koi Pond, a Zen Garden, a Bamboo Garden, and a Dry River Garden. Each garden is carefully designed to evoke a sense of peace and encourage reflection, showcasing the principles of sukiya architecture with its emphasis on simplicity, natural materials, and harmony. The gardens also host art galleries and a museum displaying Japanese art and handicrafts, providing visitors with a multifaceted cultural experience. Visitors can immerse themselves in the beauty of Ikebana, the Japanese art of flower arrangement, during special events. The gardens' design reflects a deep understanding of Japanese aesthetics, offering a space for contemplation and a connection with nature. Yume aims to provide a transformative experience, inviting visitors to reshape their inner landscape and find emotional resilience through the beauty of its gardens. Following an acquisition by Tucson Botanical Gardens in late May 2025, Yume Japanese Gardens is currently undergoing infrastructure improvements and is expected to reopen in early 2026. Patricia Deridder will continue to serve on Yume's Advisory Board, ensuring that her vision for the gardens is preserved.
