Getting There

• Car

  To reach the Upper Buffalo Wilderness from anywhere in the Arkansas River Valley, first use your GPS or a map application to navigate to Kingston, Arkansas. Start by taking Highway 65 north until you reach Highway 74. Turn left onto Highway 74, which will take you directly to the Kingston area. Continue on Highway 74 for approximately 13 miles until you reach the intersection with Forest Road 1200. Turn left onto Forest Road 1200. This road will lead you into the Upper Buffalo Wilderness area, where you can find various parking areas and trailheads.

• Public Transportation + Car Rental

  If you are using public transportation, your best option is to take a bus to Harrison, Arkansas, which is the nearest city with bus services (check Greyhound or similar services for schedules). Once in Harrison, you can take a taxi or rideshare service to Kingston, Arkansas. From Kingston, you will need to rent a car or arrange for transportation to reach the Upper Buffalo Wilderness. Follow the same driving directions as outlined above, driving north on Highway 65 to Highway 74, and then onto Forest Road 1200 to enter the wilderness area.

• Bicycle

  For the more adventurous, biking to Upper Buffalo Wilderness is an option if you are already in Kingston or nearby. Start from Kingston and head west on Highway 74. This will lead you to the wilderness area, but be prepared for a challenging ride as some sections may not have dedicated bike lanes. Make sure your bike is in good condition, and carry plenty of water and snacks for the journey.
