Founded in 2006 by David Bogle, a member of the Cherokee Nation, the museum's mission is to provide a space where visitors can experience the diverse Indigenous cultures of the Americas through prehistoric and historic art. The museum's exhibits are arranged chronologically, starting from around 22,000 BC and continuing to 1930 AD. Visitors are greeted by "Tusker," a 12,000-year-old Woolly Mammoth skeleton. Explore artifacts from the Paleo, Archaic, Woodland, Mississippian, and Historic periods. See the Sweetwater Biface, one of the thinnest flints ever discovered in North America, and admire Meso-American ceramics and Mississippian pots shaped like heads. MONAH also hosts events, including an annual Native American Cultural Celebration. The museum provides free admission, self-guided audio tours, and an arrowhead hunt for children. With a mission to advance understanding of human experience within these cultures and provide a space of explorative imagination for all who visit , MONAH is committed to offering free educational programming.
