Discover more about The Ozark Mill History Tour

The Ozark Mill History Tour provides a captivating glimpse into the rich heritage of the Ozarks. Originally built in 1833 by James Kimberling, the mill served as a crucial hub for the early settlement, functioning as a post office and a center for trade. The mill's location at the convergence of the Finley River and the Ozark Trace made it a vital point for the community. Throughout its history, the Ozark Mill faced numerous challenges, including three major fires and the Civil War. Remarkably, it played a role in the region's recovery after the war, providing essential milling services. The Hawkins family rebuilt the mill after a fire in 1922, constructing a concrete dam that would power the mill until it ceased commercial operations in 1992, making it the last commercially operating watermill in Missouri. Today, thanks to the vision of Johnny Morris, founder of Bass Pro Shops, the Ozark Mill has been carefully preserved and transformed into a vibrant destination. Visitors can explore the mill's history through interactive exhibits, educational videos, and theatrical projections. The Finley Farms property also includes a farm-to-table restaurant, a coffee shop, an urban farm, and event venues, all set against the backdrop of the scenic Finley River.
