Discover more about Davidsonville Historic State Park

Davidsonville Historic State Park invites visitors to step back in time and experience the atmosphere of an early 19th-century Arkansas frontier town. Founded in 1815, Davidsonville quickly became a vital hub, boasting the territory's first post office, courthouse, and federal land office. The town thrived as a river port on the Black River, serving as a crucial stop on the Southwest Trail. However, Davidsonville's prosperity was short-lived. By the 1830s, the town was bypassed by a major road, leading to its decline and eventual abandonment. Today, the state park preserves the memory of Davidsonville, offering a unique blend of historical exploration and outdoor recreation. Visitors can explore the park's trails, including the Historic Townsite Trail, which winds through the site of the original town square, revealing stories of Davidsonville's past through interpretive exhibits. Full-size "ghost structures" outline the buildings that once stood, allowing visitors to imagine life in this frontier settlement. The park also features a visitor center with a replica of an 1820s hunter-trapper flatboat and displays of artifacts unearthed during archaeological digs. For nature enthusiasts, Davidsonville Historic State Park offers hiking trails, fishing opportunities on the Black River and Trapper Lake, and a campground for overnight stays.
