Discover more about Historic Greyhound Bus Depot Visitor Center

The Historic Greyhound Bus Depot Visitor Center in Blytheville, Arkansas, stands as a testament to the elegance of Art Deco architecture and the significance of bus travel in American history. Built in 1939, this Streamline Moderne-style station is believed to be one of only a few of its kind still in existence. Its rounded corners, projecting canopies, and the iconic Greyhound Bus Lines vertical sign evoke a sense of nostalgia for a bygone era. Originally designed by Noland Van Pile and Ben Watson White, the station served as a vital transportation hub for over 60 years. It witnessed countless reunions, farewells, and journeys, particularly during World War II when soldiers traveled to and from the nearby Blytheville Air Force Base. The station also played a role in the Civil Rights Movement, as its original design included segregated waiting areas, a stark reminder of the social inequalities of the time. After closing in 2001 and falling into disrepair, the community rallied to save the historic landmark. It was purchased, renovated, and reopened in 2010, now serving as the Main Street Blytheville headquarters and a visitor center. Although the interior may not always be accessible, visitors can peek through the windows to admire the vintage charm and learn about the station's history through exhibits and displays. The building is a designated National Historic Landmark and a stop on the Arkansas Delta Byway's African American Heritage Trail.
