Walking
From the center of Alaverdi, head north on the main road (Tigran Mets Street). Continue walking for about 1 kilometer until you reach the intersection with the road leading to Akhtala. Turn right onto this road and follow it for approximately 3 kilometers. You will pass by several local shops and houses along the way. Keep an eye out for the signs pointing to Akhtala Monastery Fortress. After about 15-20 minutes of walking, you will see the fortress on your left as you approach the village of Akhtala.
Public Transportation
From Alaverdi, you can take a minibus (marshrutka) heading towards Akhtala. These minibuses usually depart from the central bus station or designated stops. Make sure to confirm with the driver that they are going to Akhtala. The ride will take approximately 15-20 minutes. Once you reach Akhtala, get off at the stop closest to the monastery. From there, it’s a short walk up the hill to the entrance of Akhtala Monastery Fortress.
Bicycling
If you prefer to bicycle, rent a bike in Alaverdi and start on Tigran Mets Street heading north. After about 1 kilometer, turn right onto the road towards Akhtala. The route is mostly downhill and will take you through scenic landscapes. Keep pedaling for about 3 kilometers, and you’ll arrive at the fortress. Be cautious of the traffic on the road, as it can get busy.
