Getting There

• Walking

  From the Byron Bay Visitor Centre at 80 Jonson Street, many attractions are within walking distance. Main Beach is a short stroll to the east. Head north on Jonson Street, then turn right onto Bay Street to reach the beach. The walk is mostly flat and takes about 5 minutes. Free.

• Public Transport

  Local buses operate within Byron Bay and connect to surrounding towns. From the Byron Bay Interchange on Butler Street, you can catch a bus to destinations like Ballina, Mullumbimby, and Brunswick Heads. Bus fares are paid in cash to the driver. A short trip within Byron Bay costs around $3-$5 AUD.

• Taxi

  Taxis and ride-sharing services like Uber are readily available in Byron Bay. A short taxi ride from the Byron Bay Visitor Centre to, say, The Farm Byron Bay, approximately 5km away, would cost around $15 AUD. Taxi fares start at $4.60 AUD, with an additional $2.80 AUD per kilometer.

• Parking

  Pay parking is enforced in the Byron Bay CBD from 9 am to 6 pm, seven days a week. Parking fees are $5 per hour, capped at $25 for all-day parking. Council-operated car parks are located at Main Beach, Lawson Street North, Lawson Street South and Clarkes Beach. Free parking is available at Byron Bay Fair, about 4 kilometers from the CBD. Be aware that car parks managed by NSW National Parks, such as those at Cape Byron Lighthouse, have separate parking fees.
