Getting there

Public Transport

From Cairns City, take the Sunbus route 131. The bus stops directly outside the Flecker Gardens on Collins Avenue. The journey takes approximately 6 minutes and departs hourly. A one-way ticket costs $1 - $2.

Walking

From the Cairns Tourist Information Centre on Abbott Street, the gardens are approximately a 45-minute walk (4 km). Follow the well-paved footpath north. Note that this is an uncovered walk, so bring water and sun protection.

Taxi

A taxi or rideshare from Cairns City to the Botanic Gardens takes about 5-10 minutes. Expect to pay around $15 - $18. There are taxi ranks throughout the city center.

Driving

From Cairns City, drive northwest on Sheridan Street, then turn onto Collins Avenue. The gardens are about a 10-minute drive. There is ample free street parking available along Collins Avenue and Greenslopes Street.

The Cairns Botanic Gardens, located in Edge Hill, are renowned as one of Australia's best displays of tropical plants. The gardens' history dates back to the mid-1880s with Eugene Fitzalan's Edge Hill Nursery. Dr. Hugo Flecker and the North Queensland Naturalist Club later spearheaded the establishment of a formal botanical garden.The gardens are divided into several themed sections, including the Flecker Garden, Gondwanan Heritage Garden, and Zhanjiang Friendship Garden. Explore the Rainforest Boardwalk, wander through the Bamboo Collection, or relax by the Freshwater and Saltwater Lakes. The Watkins Munro Martin Conservatory showcases orchids, ferns, and butterflies.Visitors can enjoy free guided walking tours, birdwatching, and photography. The Visitor Centre offers information, maps, and souvenirs. The Botanic Gardens Restaurant Cafe and TANK sixty four cafe provide dining options. The nearby Tanks Arts Centre hosts exhibitions and events.
