Getting There

  • Walking

    From the Korumburra town center, head south on Commercial Street, then turn left onto Bridge Street. Continue onto Silkstone Road. The entrance to Coal Creek Community Park & Museum will be on your left. The walk is approximately 1.5km and should take around 20 minutes.

  • Public Transport

    Take the V/Line bus service from Melbourne to Yarram, alighting at Korumburra. From the Korumburra bus stop, it is approximately 2km to Coal Creek. You can take a taxi from the taxi rank near the bus stop, or walk. A taxi will cost approximately $10-$15.

  • Driving

    From Melbourne, take the South Gippsland Highway (M420) to Korumburra. Follow the signs to Coal Creek Community Park & Museum. Once in Korumburra, follow Bridge Street and then Silkstone Road. The park is located at 12 Silkstone Rd. Parking is available at the entrance to the park.

Coal Creek Community Park & Museum offers visitors a unique opportunity to step back in time and experience life in a recreated coal mining village from the late 1800s to the early 1900s. Located in Korumburra, South Gippsland, the park showcases the region's rich history and pioneering heritage. Established in 1974, Coal Creek began with the relocation of the old Korumburra Courthouse. From this single building, a historic village was born, growing to encompass over 50 original and replica buildings. These buildings represent various aspects of life in a rural Australian community, including a general store, barber shop, printer, courtroom, schoolhouse, and miner's cottage. Visitors can explore the buildings, view collections, and learn about the daily lives of the early settlers and coal miners. The park's extensive collection includes over half a million items, ranging from large industrial equipment to everyday household objects. The exhibits tell the story of coal mining, agriculture, transportation, and social history of the South Gippsland region. Coal Creek Community Park & Museum is set on 27 hectares of undulating landscape, creating a flora and fauna sanctuary for visitors to enjoy. The park provides a tranquil setting for a picnic and a chance to slow down and appreciate the history and natural beauty of the area. The park is open Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday, 10am-4pm. We are open 7 days a week during Victorian state school holidays.
