Discover more about Fitzroy Falls Lookout

Fitzroy Falls Lookout is a must-see destination in the Southern Highlands of New South Wales, offering stunning views of the iconic Fitzroy Falls and the vast Yarrunga Valley. The falls themselves are formed by Wildes Meadow Creek cascading over a sandstone escarpment, dropping 81 meters into the valley below. Originally known to the Indigenous Wodi Wodi people, the falls were later witnessed by European explorer Charles Throsby in the early 19th century. Initially named Throsby Falls, they were renamed in honor of Sir Charles Fitzroy, the Governor of New South Wales, following his visit in 1850. Today, Fitzroy Falls Lookout is easily accessible from the Fitzroy Falls Visitor Centre via a short, wheelchair-friendly boardwalk. From the lookout, visitors can witness the impressive Fitzroy Falls and take in the panoramic views of the Yarrunga Valley, with Mount Scanzi and Mount Carrialoo visible in the distance. The surrounding Morton National Park offers a variety of walking tracks, including the West Rim and East Rim tracks, providing different perspectives of the falls and the surrounding landscape. The visitor centre provides information about the area's history, wildlife, and Aboriginal culture.
