Discover more about Boulder Creek Falls

Boulder Creek Falls, a jewel within Kakadu National Park, is part of the Yurmikmik Walks, an area named by the Jawoyn people. This accessible and picturesque location is best visited during the wet season, from December to March, when the falls are flowing strongly and the surrounding landscape is vibrantly green. The Yurmikmik Boulder Creek Falls Walk is a moderately challenging 2-kilometer return trail. The walk typically takes around an hour, making it ideal for a refreshing break. The trail begins near Plum Tree Creek, a seasonal waterway named after the billygoat plum (marlak) that thrives along its banks. Keep an eye out for the colourful birds like striated pardalotes (pirn'pirntok) and rainbow bee-eaters (wirrirtwirrirt). Boulder Creek itself is a hidden gem, featuring a 10-meter-high waterfall that flows into inviting pools. The clear waters offer a chance to spot long-neck turtles and small fish. Swimming in the plunge pool beneath the falls is a highlight, offering a cool respite from the Australian heat. The surrounding sandstone formations add to the area's beauty, creating a breathtaking natural setting. For those seeking a longer adventure, Boulder Creek can be combined with other Yurmikmik walks, such as the Motor Car Falls trail. However, Boulder Creek's shorter, easier access makes it a favourite for a quick and rewarding experience.
