Bus
To reach the Butterfly Sanctuary at 8 Rob Veivers Dr, Kuranda, take the local Sunbus from Port Douglas. Head to the nearest bus stop on Macrossan Street. Board the bus heading towards Cairns, and make sure to check the schedule for the next departure. After about 40 minutes, you will reach the Cairns Central Station. From there, transfer to the Kuranda Scenic Railway or take a local bus that goes to Kuranda. If you choose the Scenic Railway, enjoy the beautiful ride as it takes you directly to Kuranda Station, where you will get off. Once you arrive at Kuranda Station, it’s about a 15-minute walk to the Butterfly Sanctuary. Just head down Therwine St, continue onto Rob Veivers Dr, and you will find the sanctuary on your left.
Shuttle
Another option is to book a shuttle service from Port Douglas to Kuranda. Many local tour companies offer shuttle services that will pick you up from your accommodation in Port Douglas. Be sure to check with your hotel for recommendations. The shuttle will take you directly to Kuranda, and from there, it’s a short 10-minute walk to the Butterfly Sanctuary, located at 8 Rob Veivers Dr. Just follow the main road until you see the sanctuary on your left.
Walking and Public Transport
If you’re feeling adventurous and want to experience the local scenery, you can walk to the nearest bus stop on Macrossan Street and take a bus to Cairns. From there, switch to the Kuranda Scenic Railway or a bus to Kuranda. If you choose to walk, you can take the scenic route along the beach before heading to the bus stop. Once in Kuranda, it's a pleasant walk of about 15 minutes to the Butterfly Sanctuary. Just follow the signs or ask locals for directions to Rob Veivers Dr.
