Local know-how to help you travel smarter and make the most of every moment.
Car
If you are traveling by car, begin your journey from Cairns, which is approximately 90 km away from Wallicher Falls. Take the Captain Cook Highway (A1) south towards Gordonvale. At Gordonvale, take the Gillies Highway (B1) towards Yungaburra. Continue on the Gillies Highway until you reach the Palmerston Highway (B111). Turn right onto Palmerston Highway and follow the signs to Wooroonooran. The falls are located along this highway, and you will find a designated parking area nearby. Please note, parking may incur a small fee, so have some coins ready.
Public Transportation
For those using public transportation, start by taking a bus from Cairns to Innisfail. Once in Innisfail, you will need to catch a taxi or a rideshare service to Wallicher Falls, as public transport options to the falls are limited. Taxis are available at the Innisfail bus station, and the fare to Wallicher Falls is typically around AUD 40-50. Ensure you book your return trip with the same service, as it may be challenging to find a ride back.
Walking
If you are already in the vicinity and wish to hike to Wallicher Falls from nearby accommodation, ensure you have proper footwear and enough water. The falls are accessible via a short walking track that begins from the designated parking area on Palmerston Highway. The walk is approximately 1 km one way, and while it is not overly strenuous, be cautious of muddy or uneven paths after rainfall.
