Car
If you're traveling by car, you'll want to head towards West Launceston. From Launceston city center, drive north on Charles Street, which turns into the East Tamar Highway (A7). Follow the signs for A7 until you reach the roundabout. Take the first exit onto West Tamar Highway (A7). Continue to follow A7 and then take the exit towards Kings Park. Follow the signs to the First Basin Track. There is parking available near the start of the walking track to Sentinel Lookout.
Public Transport
If you're taking public transportation, start by heading to the Launceston Transit Centre. From there, you can catch a bus that goes towards Kings Park. When you reach the stop near Kings Park, get off and walk towards the First Basin Track. The walk to Sentinel Lookout will take approximately 20-30 minutes depending on your pace. Make sure to check the local bus timetable for the most current schedules as services may vary.
Walking
Once you've parked your car or gotten off the bus, head towards the First Basin Track. The trail is well-marked and starts at the edge of Kings Park. The walk to Sentinel Lookout is a moderately steep 1 km hike that should take around 30 minutes. Be prepared for some steps along the way, and enjoy the beautiful views as you ascend. Make sure to wear comfortable footwear and carry water, especially on warmer days.
