If you are travelling by car, start from Lienz, the capital of East Tyrol. Head northwest on B100 (Osttiroler Straße) for approximately 40 km until you reach the junction for B108. Continue on B108 towards the Italian border. Once you reach the border, follow the signs for Cortina d'Ampezzo. After entering Italy, continue on Strada Statale 51 di Alemagna for about 10 km. Look for signs directing you to Rifugio Son Forca and turn onto Grava di Stounies road. The rifugio is located at coordinates 46.5682085, 12.1855767. Make sure to check for tolls that may apply on your route.

To reach Rifugio Son Forca via public transport, start from Lienz. Take the train from Lienz to Dobbiaco (Toblach) station, which usually requires a transfer at San Candido (Innichen). From Dobbiaco, take a local bus towards Cortina d'Ampezzo. Make sure to check the bus schedule in advance, as the frequency may vary. Once you arrive in Cortina d'Ampezzo, you can take a taxi or a local shuttle service to Grava di Stounies. The rifugio is about a 15-20 minute drive from the town center.
