Getting There

  • Walking

St. Peter's Abbey is located in the heart of Salzburg's Old Town (Altstadt), making it easily accessible on foot from most central locations. From the Salzburg Cathedral, walk south through the Kapitelplatz, then continue straight, passing the Franziskanerkirche on your left. The main entrance to St. Peter's Abbey will be on your right, just past the church. This is a short, level walk of approximately 5-10 minutes. Note that the Old Town is a pedestrian zone, so vehicle access is limited.

  • Public Transport

If arriving by public transport, the nearest bus stops are "Herbert-von-Karajan-Platz" and "Zentrum Rathaus", both within a short walking distance of the abbey. From the Salzburg Hauptbahnhof (main train station), take bus line 1 to "Ferdinand Hanusch Platz" or bus lines 3, 5, or 6 to "Rathaus". From either stop, it's a 5-10 minute walk to St. Peter's Abbey through the Old Town. A single bus ticket costs €2.50 if purchased from a vending machine or €3.00 if purchased on board. A 24-hour ticket for the core zone of Salzburg costs €4.90 from a vending machine or €6.40 on the bus.

  • Taxi

Taxis are readily available in Salzburg and can drop you off near St. Peter's Abbey. However, since the Old Town is largely pedestrianized, taxis may not be able to drop you directly at the entrance. The closest drop-off point is likely near the Herbert-von-Karajan-Platz. From there, it is a short walk to the abbey. A short taxi ride within the city center will likely cost around €9-€10 during the day. Taxi fares start at €3.90, with a per-kilometer charge of approximately €1.70-€2.15. You can order a taxi by calling +43 662 8111.
