5 Fingers Viewing Platform: A Breathtaking Alpine Experience

Perched high above Obertraun on Mount Krippenstein, the 5 Fingers viewing platform is one of the most spectacular attractions in the Salzkammergut region. This unique platform extends like a hand over a 400-meter precipice, offering visitors an adrenaline rush and unparalleled views of the surrounding alpine landscape.Opened in October 2006, the 5 Fingers platform gets its name from its distinctive hand-like shape, with five narrow walkways stretching out into the sky. Each "finger" is approximately 4 meters long and offers a slightly different design and viewing experience. Some have glass floors, providing a thrilling sense of standing directly above the valley, while others feature open grids or a photo frame for capturing the stunning scenery.The views from the platform are breathtaking, encompassing Lake Hallstatt, the Dachstein mountains, and the wider Salzkammergut region. On a clear day, visitors can see the Dachstein glacier and some of the region's highest peaks. The platform is illuminated at night, making it visible from the villages below.To reach the 5 Fingers, visitors take the Dachstein Krippenstein cable car from Obertraun. The journey involves two sections of the cable car, followed by a scenic 15-20 minute walk along the Experience Trail to the platform. The trail itself offers additional viewpoints and attractions, including the World Heritage View, which provides panoramic views of the Dachstein glacier.The area around Krippenstein and Obertraun offers a range of activities beyond the 5 Fingers, including hiking trails, ice caves, and the charming town of Hallstatt.
