Getting There

  • Walking

    From Hallstatt's Market Square (Marktplatz), head uphill on Salzbergstraße towards the Salzberg (Salt Mountain). Continue for about 10 minutes, passing shops and cafes. Look for signs directing you to Alte Schmiede, located at Salzberg 2, on your right, before the Salzberg cable car station. Alternatively, from the Hallstatt ferry terminal, walk along the waterfront promenade (Seepromenade) towards the center. Continue to the Market Square, then follow Salzbergstraße uphill to Alte Schmiede.

  • Public Transport

    If arriving by train, take the ferry from Hallstatt train station to the Hallstatt Markt (main ferry terminal). The ferry costs €4 for adults. From the ferry terminal, walk along the Seepromenade to the Market Square and then follow the walking directions. If arriving by bus from a neighboring town, alight at the Hallstatt Lahn bus stop and walk towards the center of Hallstatt. Continue to the Market Square, then follow Salzbergstraße uphill to Alte Schmiede.

  • Parking

    Visitors arriving by car should park in one of the designated parking areas (P1, P2, P3, or P4) outside the village center. Short-term parking costs range from €5 for 1 hour to €18 for a day ticket. From the parking lots, follow the signs towards the village center and the Salzbergbahn cable car station. Alte Schmiede is located on Salzbergstraße, before the cable car station. Note: There is a shuttle service from P1 to accommodations in the center for hotel guests. This service is free with a valid hotel ticket from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
