Schloss Achleiten, located in the scenic region of Rohr im Kremstal, is a testament to Austria's rich historical and architectural heritage. First mentioned in historical documents in 1189, the castle's strategic location was used to control the Kremstal valley. For centuries, ownership of the estate changed hands, including a period under the Prince Archbishop of Salzburg in the 18th century, who influenced its current appearance with the addition of a magnificent fountain and garden pavilion. Between 1727 and 1734, Abbot Gregor I Plaichshirn commissioned the construction of the current castle on the site of a farmhouse. It functioned as a summer retreat for the Benedictine monks of Tegernsee until 1803. In 1836, the Barons von Blomberg acquired the property, followed by Jaromír von Škoda in 1894, brother of the Škoda Works founder. The Barons von Weichs eventually inherited the estate and remain the owners today. Today, Schloss Achleiten is renowned for its well-preserved structure, enchanting facade, and lush gardens. Since 1992, the Schloss Achleiten Riding Club has hosted international dressage competitions, attracting world-class riders and enthusiasts. Visitors can explore the castle grounds, admire its unique architectural elements, and immerse themselves in the serene landscapes of the Kremstal Valley.
