    If driving, navigate to Aggsbach-Dorf 46, 3394 Aggsbach Dorf. From the center of Waldviertel, take the B2 road towards Krems. Continue on B2 until you reach the interchange with B37. Take B37 towards Aggsbach-Dorf. Follow the signs to Aggsbach and then to the Charterhouse. Parking is available near the Charterhouse. Parking fees may apply.

Founded in 1380 by Heidenreich von Maissau, this former Carthusian monastery, or charterhouse, showcases the architectural style of the time. The monastery was dissolved in 1782 by Emperor Joseph II and was converted into a castle. Today, visitors can explore the Carthusian Museum, which explains the life of the Carthusians and the history of the monastery. The Carthusian church, with the addition of a tower, remains as the parish church. The monks' cells and the cloister were demolished, but visitors can now wander through a meditation garden where they once stood. The surrounding countryside offers scenic walking trails, perfect for exploring the natural beauty of the area. The site is open year-round, with extended hours during the warmer months, allowing visitors ample opportunity to soak in the peaceful ambiance.
