  • Public Transport

    To reach UnterWasserReich using public transport, take a train to Gmünd, Lower Austria. From Gmünd, take bus route 741 towards Schrems. Get off at Schrems Busbahnhof. From there, you can take a local taxi or walk approximately 2 km to UnterWasserReich. Bus tickets from Gmünd to Schrems cost approximately €2-€11. A taxi from Schrems Busbahnhof to UnterWasserReich will cost around €10-€15.

  • Walking

    If you are in Schrems, UnterWasserReich is located approximately 1 km from the town center. From the town center, follow Moorbadstraße to the attraction. The walk is approximately 15-20 minutes.

  • Car

    If driving, UnterWasserReich is located at Moorbadstraße 4, 3943 Schrems. From Vienna, take the A22 to Stockerau, then the E49/B4 via Horn to Schrems. Follow signs to UnterWasserReich. Parking is available at the UnterWasserReich. Parking is free.

Discover the fascinating world of Waldviertel's ponds and moors at the UnterWasserReich Nature Park Hochmoor Schrems. This nature park originated from a former peat-ditch. Today, visitors can explore the various regeneration stages of the moor, as well as moor ponds in the UnterWasserReich. The UnterWasserReich is the visitor center of the Nature Park Hochmoor Schrems and a Ramsar Information Center. The interactive indoor exhibition and the naturally designed water garden introduce visitors of all ages to the captivating world of Waldviertel ponds and moors. Highlights of the exhibition include native fish in large aquariums, self-microscopy stations, water experiments, an indoor otter den, and microscope live shows. The microscope live shows take place daily. In the water garden, visitors can stroll along wooden terraces and marvel at the typical plants and inhabitants of this special habitat, such as sundew, marsh Labrador tea, cotton grass, frogs, dragonflies and butterflies. A ride on the cable raft is fun, and if you prefer a more leisurely pace, you can choose one of the many deck chairs and enjoy the nature before heading to one of the three daily otter feedings. The feedings take place daily at 10.30am, 1.30pm and 4.00pm. The area of the Hochmoor Schrems Nature Park was placed under protection in 2000 and covers 119 hectares. The total area of the moor complex is 300 hectares, making it the largest moor in Lower Austria. Visitors can explore the nature park on various hiking trails, and the 20 m high "Stairway to Heaven" observation tower, the "Prügelsteg" over the open moor area and the moor paddling pool are worth a visit.
