Vogelbergsteig: A Scenic Hike in Dürnstein

The Vogelbergsteig, or Bird Mountain Trail, is a captivating hiking experience located in the picturesque Wachau Valley near Dürnstein, Austria. This scenic trail provides hikers with breathtaking views of the Danube River, the charming town of Dürnstein, and the terraced vineyards that define the region. The trail begins near the western edge of Dürnstein and ascends the Vogelberg, a mountain characterized by steep, rocky terrain and dry forests that provide nesting sites for various bird species. As hikers climb, they'll encounter diverse landscapes, including wooded areas, rocky paths, and sections secured with ropes. The trail crosses a rock face at one point, which is secured with a rope. Along the way, several viewpoints offer stunning vistas. The "Kanzel" (pulpit) is a rock ledge that provides panoramic views of the Wachau Valley. The Starhembergwarte, an outlook tower atop the Schloßberg, offers another vantage point for surveying the surrounding countryside.
