The Franz Geyer Memorial Site, formerly known as "Teufelssteine" (Devil's Stones), is a distinctive geological formation consisting of three mushroom-shaped granite rocks, ranging from 2 to 7 meters in height. These natural sculptures have been shaped over centuries by the elements. In 1981, the site was renamed to honor Franz Geyer (1884-1965), a beloved local composer and educator. Geyer dedicated his life to celebrating the Waldviertel through his music. From 1904 to 1946, he taught various subjects, including music, at the local school in Heidenreichstein. His compositions captured the essence of the region's landscapes, traditions and people, becoming an integral part of the Waldviertel's cultural identity. The memorial site is easily accessible via a long wooden bridge that spans the outflow of the nearby Bruneiteich pond. A memorial plaque affixed to one of the rocks commemorates Franz Geyer's life and contributions. The surrounding area offers a peaceful retreat, with opportunities for fishing, leisurely walks around the Bruneiteich, and hiking in the nearby forests. The annual Abfischfest (fish harvest festival) takes place at Bruneiteich each October.
