    Walking

    From Salzburg's Old Town, cross the Makartsteg bridge. Upon exiting the bridge, the entrance to Mirabell Gardens is directly ahead. Walk through the gardens to reach Mirabell Palace. The walk is generally flat and takes about 10-15 minutes.

    Public Transport

    From Salzburg Hauptbahnhof (main train station), take bus lines 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 22 or 25 to the 'Mirabellplatz' bus stop. The bus stop is located directly in front of Mirabell Palace. A single bus fare costs between €1-2. Tickets can be purchased at vending machines, 'Tabaktrafik' shops, or from the bus driver.

    Taxis are readily available throughout Salzburg. A taxi ride from Salzburg Hauptbahnhof to Mirabell Palace takes approximately 5 minutes and costs around €6-€7. Taxi stands are located at the main train station and other major tourist areas.

    If driving, the Mirabell-Congress-Garage is located near Mirabell Palace. Parking fees are approximately €3 per hour, with a daily maximum of €30. Note that the parking lot is closed every Thursday from 00:00 - 16:00 due to a weekly market. Limited accessibility.

    Mirabell Palace and its gardens are a must-see in Salzburg, offering a blend of history, architecture, and natural beauty. Built in 1606 by Prince-Archbishop Wolf Dietrich von Raitenau as Altenau Palace for his mistress Salome Alt and their 15 children, it was later renamed Mirabell by his successor. The palace was rebuilt in the Baroque style between 1721 and 1727 by Johann Lukas von Hildebrandt.The Marble Hall is the palace's most famous room, once the banquet hall of the Prince-Archbishops and a concert venue where Leopold Mozart and his children, Wolfgang and Nannerl, performed. Today, it's a sought-after wedding venue. The palace also houses the mayor's office and city administration.The Mirabell Gardens, redesigned around 1690, showcase a geometrical Baroque style. Key features include the Grand Parterre with its central fountain and statues representing the four elements, the Pegasus Fountain, the Hedge Theater, and the Dwarf Garden, the oldest of its kind in Europe. The gardens gained fame as a filming location for "The Sound of Music". Emperor Franz Joseph I opened the gardens to the public in 1854.
