Discover more about Locherer Kapelle

The Locherer Kapelle, located in a secluded forest clearing between Kufstein and Schwoich, provides a unique blend of spiritual solace and historical significance. Constructed in 1739, the chapel may incorporate even older elements. It stands as a testament to the enduring faith and turbulent past of the Tyrol region. Historically, the Locherer Kapelle served as a rallying point for Tyrolean Schützen (militia) during critical periods. In both 1703 and 1809, soldiers from the surrounding areas gathered here before participating in the sieges of Kufstein Fortress, which was then under Bavarian occupation. Its location on an old trade route from Kufstein to Haberg made it a natural assembly point for those defending their homeland. The chapel's interior features a replica of a large wooden votive panel dating back to 1713. The original panel, now housed in the Kufstein Fortress Museum, commemorates the Tyrolean siege of the fortress in 1703 during the War of the Spanish Succession. The inscription on the panel pays homage to God, the Virgin Mary, and various saints, expressing gratitude for protection during the conflict. The exterior features a gabled roof and a small bell tower, while the interior is adorned with a modest Baroque altar and various religious artifacts. Benches outside invite visitors to relax in nature. Visiting the Locherer Kapelle offers an opportunity to connect with the region's history, appreciate its natural beauty, and experience a moment of spiritual reflection.
