Discover more about Grand Hotel Zell am See

The Grand Hotel Zell am See, prominently situated on a private peninsula on the shores of Lake Zell, has been an iconic landmark since its construction between 1894 and 1896. Built in the Belle Époque style, the hotel boasts a striking snow-white facade and mansard roof, making it visible from nearly any point on the lake. Originally known as the 'Grandhotel am See,' it quickly became a sought-after destination for European aristocracy, including Empress Elisabeth of Austria. The hotel flourished, offering modern luxuries like electric lighting from 1902. World War I brought an end to this golden era, and the hotel was sold in 1918. During World War II, the hotel served as a holiday retreat for German soldiers and was later occupied by American forces, even briefly hosting the 'Rainbow University' for American GIs. The hotel faced hardships, including flood damage in 1965. After being sold to a Swedish time-sharing company in 1980, it was rebuilt in its original architectural style and reopened in 1984. In 1995, the Holleis family, also owners of the Hotel Salzburgerhof, acquired the Grand Hotel, restoring its Austrian hotel culture. Today, the Grand Hotel is a modern wellness hotel with imperial flair, featuring the Casino Zell am See since 2015. Guests can enjoy a blend of traditional and contemporary amenities, including the Imperial Café Bar, wellness areas, and a range of dining options.
