Nestled in the scenic Alpbachtal Valley, the Bergbauernmuseum is a living testament to the enduring legacy of Tyrolean mountain farmers. Located a few hundred meters above the small church in Inneralpbach, the museum is housed within the Vorder-Unterberg Farm, a historical treasure dating back to 1636-1638. The farmhouse was inhabited until 1952, bearing witness to generations of families who toiled within its walls. In 1975, the municipality of Alpbach recognized the farm's cultural significance and transformed it into a museum. Stepping inside the Bergbauernmuseum is like stepping back in time. The museum boasts a collection of approximately 800 items of furniture and implements, each carefully preserved to illustrate the daily lives of Alpbachtal's ancestors. Visitors can explore the ancient wood-paneled parlor, complete with a traditional tiled stove that served as the heart of the home. The smokehouse, with its array of pots and tools, offers a glimpse into the time-honored practice of smoking Speck bacon, a regional delicacy. On the first floor, the bedrooms display beautiful wardrobes and chests. A granary and a private chapel are also located here. At the back of the farmhouse, the stable and barn are located, with cows, chickens and pigs still living on the farm, making it a 'living museum'. The museum provides an immersive experience, transporting visitors back to a time when life was intimately connected to the land and shaped by the rhythms of nature. Beyond the museum, Alpbach offers a range of activities and attractions. Nature enthusiasts can explore the surrounding mountains through hiking and biking trails. The nearby Alpbach Art Gallery showcases creativity inspired by the Tyrolean surroundings.
