Discover more about Mittlerer Achenfall

The Mittlerer Achenfall is the central tier of the Krimml Waterfalls, a breathtaking natural spectacle located in Krimml, Austria. These falls, the highest in Austria, plunge a combined 380 meters (1,247 feet) down a series of three cascades. The Mittlerer Achenfall itself drops 100 meters (328 feet) and is positioned between the upper and lower sections, offering a unique vantage point. The falls are fed by the Krimmler Ache, a glacial stream originating from the Krimmler Achental. The sheer force of the water has carved its way through the granite rock of the Hohe Tauern National Park over millennia. The surrounding landscape features lush greenery and rocky cliffs, creating a serene and awe-inspiring setting. The falls are a major tourist attraction, drawing nearly half a million visitors annually. The spray from the falls is believed to have healing properties, making the region a popular destination for health tourism. The negative ions in the mist can be beneficial for those with allergies and asthma. A well-maintained hiking trail allows visitors to experience the Krimml Waterfalls up close, with several viewpoints offering spectacular perspectives. The trail to the top of the falls is 4 kilometers long and ascends 430 meters.
